This site is a forum for music that is meaningful to me. That includes songs I associate with prior phases of my life, all the way back to when I was a lonely kid listening to vinyl on an elephantine stereo system through clunky headphones. But I may also feature pieces that I’ve discovered only recently from my ramblings around the web. My interests include folk music, classic songwriters and performers from the ’20’s through the ’70’s, novelty tunes, Yiddish, Irish, and African-American culture, and contemporary alternative material. But my potential scope admits no bounds.
What, you may ask, qualifies me to write this blog? It’s simple. Absolutely nothing. I know little about music, have never played an instrument, and cannot carry a tune. Moreover, the average person is probably familiar with many things, both musically and culturally, of which I remain ignorant. And what I do know, or think I know, is often derived from sources that are equally available to everyone else online. Yet, I dare to hope that my (rather pointless) life journey has exposed me to material — some of which you would never otherwise have encountered –that will resonate with you. At times, I may also use these songs as a springboard to pose questions that may — pardon me while I locate my pretentious soap box — illuminate the human condition.
I am not concerned with making a buck from this or maximizing my following. With that indifference comes freedom, including the prerogative of posting only when the mood strikes me, and only insofar as so doing so is consistent with the demands of my day job as God. Also, as a rank amateur who wishes to avoid copyright infringement, I will rely on links to other sites. Within these constraints, I will attempt to entertain, enlighten, establish new connections with people of good will, and begin a conversation about … all sorts of things. Come along for the ride!
